IPC NOR-AM: KAROLINA WISNIEWSKA WINS FINAL IPC RACE OF 2008/09 SEASON TELUS Canadian Para-Alpine Ski Championships end with IPC Nor-Am slalom

Karolina Wisniewska (Vancouver, BC/ Calgary, AB) won for the third consecutive day, taking today’s slalom at the TELUS Canadian Para-Alpine Ski Championships in Sun Peaks, B.C.

Wisniewska, who skis in the ladies standing category, was joined by Josh Dueck (Vernon, BC), Chantal Fowler (Ottawa, ON), and Matt Hallat (Coquitlam, BC) as CPAST athletes who won today’s IPC Nor-Am slalom event, bringing the IPC season to an end for Canadian athletes.

In the men’s visually impaired category, the crown went once again to BC’s Jay Maloney and his guide Tyler Maloney.

Wisniewska, who has been on the CPAST team since 1995, won the race in a two-run combined time of one minute 51.04 in front of Canadian Para-Alpine Development Team member Melanie Schwartz (Toronto, ON).

“I was super happy with my results today, I skied very well and I’m proud of myself. Winning the three races is a fantastic way to end the season, which has really been too good to be true,” said Wisniewska. “This is definitely a confidence booster for the year to come.”

Andrea Dziewior (Nanaimo, BC) and Arly Fogarty (Montreal, QC) finished in third and fourth place respectively.

Dueck won the men’s sitting category with a combined time of 1:37.48, in front of another CPAST team member Luke Donovan (Dalhousie, NB). He also won gold in yesterday’s slalom race.

Hallat won the race in the men’s standing category with a combined time of one 1:45.55 in front of Jeff Dickson (Sudbury, ON), a member of the Canadian Para-Alpine Development Team. Hallat also won yesterday’s slalom race.

This was the last event of the TELUS Canadian Para-Alpine Ski Championships which also marks the end of the 2008/09 season for the Canadian Para-Alpine Ski Team.

The CPAST team ended the season as the #1 national in the Nation’s Cup, beating the powerful Austrian and Americans for the first time in history.
